Hi,

Today’s post gives me a chance to talk about two of my favourite people. Nova Cox and Charly Calpin. I don’t see them all that often, but when I do they makes me smile.

Nova’s work here is a really brilliant expression of the word ‘FFFFUUUUUCCCCCCKKKK!!!!!!’ The page is shouting it out, which is pretty great. It does us good to have a big shout! Or even write down expletives. It’s cathartic – I challenge you to try it and not enjoy it. Maybe not where you’ll get into trouble though ha. It’s like her writing this word has evoked all kinds of magical beasts. I love it.

The work featured was created at a Collage and Doodle workshop. We collaborated with Charly Calpin of Free Hand Creative Evenings to run the workshop, in the days when she worked from the large and sometimes quite chilly courtyard of CADS. Now Charly has her own space at CADS, and it is lovely. It is so nice and WARM, with loads of shelves to store her amazing materials and space to display work made by attendees. Nova has been a regular participator in nearly all of our workshops (when they are ongoing) and also features in both zine 1 and 2. Her work is varied but there’s a real definite style to her creations, under the name It Snipped By Heart. She regularly features in Your Voice Sheffield magazine with her comic strips but also creates colouring books, posters and artwork under this name.  Her is featured on another two pages in this zine, so look out for her in the future.
